About Lahore Electric Supply Company
LESCO is the acronym of Lahore Electric Supply Company, which is a power supply company based in Lahore, Pakistan. In the initial days after the independence of Pakistan, the electricity supply service was undertaken by several different agencies to maintain a continuous supply of power. But then in 1958 through the WAPDA Act, Water and Power Development Authority was made to provide more coordinated and unified development. Then WAPDA disbanded into 12 different companies for transmission, generation, and distribution of electricity. This was done because the structure and environment of the power industry were changing throughout the world and the power industry was changing the pace from monopoly to privatization. To keep up with this pace of change the Government of Pakistan approved the plan of unbundling of WAPDA and as a consequence, Lahore Area Electricity Board was made under the name of LESCO on 22 March 1998. LESCO was made with the aim of commercialization but later it got privatized and it covers the Civil District areas of Lahore, Okara, Kasur, and Sheikhupura.
